Tributes & Poems

The hardest decision you will ever have to make is the decision to release your beloved companion to the freedom of Rainbow Bridge. It is a decision that is made with all the love in your heart.
"The Last Battle" is a poem that has helped to ease my pain after giving Cookie, Chancey & Princess my last ultimate gift of love.
I wrote "Tribute to Chancey" several years after his passing.

This page Dedicated to Cookie....
Light of my life for 16 years......

The Last Battle

If it should be that I grow frail and weak
And pain should keep me from my sleep,
Then will you do what must be done,
For this -- the last battle -- can't be won.

You will be sad I understand,
But don't let grief then stay your hand,
For on this day, more than the rest,
Your love and friendship must stand the test.

We have had so many happy years,
You wouldn't want me to suffer so.
When the time comes, please, let me go.
Take me to where to my needs they'll tend,

Only, stay with me till the end
And hold me firm and speak to me
Until my eyes no longer see.
I know in time you will agree
It is a kindness you do to me.

Although my tail its last has waved,
From pain and suffering I have been saved.
Don't grieve that it must be you
Who has to decide this thing to do;

We've been so close -- we two -- these years,
Don't let your heart hold any tears.

Tribute to Chancey....

My Heart still cries a thousand tears,
Even though it's been several years.

People say, "Just write from your heart",
But Chancey, my boy, just where do I start?

What words can I use to let you see,
Just how special you were to me?

You came into my life a poor little waif,
I knew in my heart, I wanted you safe.

Your little body was battered and maimed,
By a cruel group of boys, "just playing a game".

Life on the streets had sealed your fate,
You came into my life much too late.

Six months of age is what you were at the time,
How blessed I was when you purred, "Be Mine".

Your trust and your love you freely gave,
My little boy, you were so Brave.

Our other cats knew just what to do,
With meows so sweet, they welcomed you.

Eight short weeks before you fell ill,
Is that all I get, God? Is that your Will?

Why FIP, Lord, so hard to fight?
The decision I knew...go toward the light.

The words rang out, " it's for the best",
As the vet gave you a shot, forever to rest.

Did you hear my prayers as you crossed the Bridge,
to wait for me to come?
I promise you, I'll be there someday, my little one.

Remember now, each drop of rain, each drop of morning dew,
Are tears of sadness I have shed since losing you.

Each gentle purr, or meow so soft,
Remind me of the loved one I lost.

Always in my memories, forever in my heart...
One day we'll be together, never again to be apart.

My love for you rings true and clear,
You're forever in my heart....always near....

I love you Chancey and long for the day
when I can hold you in my arms again.
